Jacksonville Jaguars pull off 41-14 win over Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 14 – NFL Recap
The Jacksonville Jaguars, who have been through a patch of negative news due to their problems for past few weeks, finally managed to pull up together to stage a 41-14 win over the visiting Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Bucs) on past Sunday.
The win came off a record-breaking performance by their running back Maurice Jones-Drew who had four touchdowns, the Jaguars franchise record. Jones finished with 136 yards in total. This included 85 yards on ground.
The Jaguars were equally good in offence and defence. They particularly ripped through their visitors the Bucs in the second quarter and scored 28 points. This was their best score in a quarter.
This was the Jaguar’s first victory with their make-shift coach Mel Tucker in charge of coaching affairs. He had taken over from Del Rio after him being fired by the Jaguars outgoing owner Wayne Weaver.
"I can't remember a quarter like that," said Tucker. "When you're playing like that, that's fun. That was good for us to have that feeling, to experience that. That's what it takes to win consistently at a high level in this league.
We got a taste of that today."
Given that Bucs defence ranked one of the National Football League (NFL) worst defences the Jaguars managed to score four times within a short span of seven minutes. They are the side that have managed not more than 20 points score
during whole current season.
The Jaguars managed to score in all three phases of the game with same performance which happened for the first time for them since 1988.
It was poor display of performance by the Bucs who seemed have set up each touchdown for the Jaguars due to repeated fumbles and mistakes. The Jaguars did not miss the chances and scored on each turnover.
"This is what we expected to have all year," defensive tackle Terrance Knighton said. "It didn't work like that, but hopefully it will be good momentum for us."
The win comes as good news not only for their new coach but also for their new owner the Pakistan-born American businessman Shahid Khan who is taking over the Jaguars from Wayne Weaver. The recently reshuffling and changes introduced
to the side have finally paid them off in form of a win.
They have still three more games to go before finishing of this NFL regular season.
