Jacksonville Jaguars see off Weaver with a win over Indianapolis Colts – NFL Recap
The Jacksonville Jaguars managed to pull off a victory over the Indianapolis Colts on past Sunday with the final score at 19-13.
The star of the show for the Jaguars was their running back Maurice Jones-Drew who ran for 169 yards to set the win for his side.
This also enabled him to win the leading rusher title in the National Football League (NFL). Drew finished the year at 1606 yards on the ground and 1,980 yards scrimmage.
"It's easy to take all of the credit, but those guys did a heck of a job blocking two or three guys, running down the field to get extra blocks and making it easier on me," Jones-Drew said of his performance.
From Colts it was D Orlovsky who put up 264 yards. This included one touchdown pass and two interceptions. He inspite his performance ended short of preventing his side from a loss.
Both sides had reasons of their own to win their last game of the season and end of the game seemed served well into their respective causes.
With the win the Jaguars have been able to see off their outgoing owner Wayne Weaver the way they had planned. He and his family were apparently pleased with their team’s performance in the game, which was their last as the owners of the side.
"It was special," Weaver said after players presented him with the game ball in the locker room. "A little overwhelming, but it was special. It was kind of emotional at times to realize that this really is it. There's no turning back now."
The team is sold out to Pakistan-born American Businessman Shahid Khan in a $770 deal reached on November 29, 2011. The new owner however will takeover officially this Wednesday (January 04, 2012) when the deal is declared closed.
The Colts loss meanwhile has kept intact their eligibility for the top draft pick next year. The side was in competition with the St. Louis Rams for the draft prize, which could be the Stanford College’s quarterback Andrew Luck.
However, the weekend loss has left the Colts as the only side qualifying for the top draft recruitment next season. However, there is no official word from the Colts management if they are going to draft Luck into their side.
It is also unclear yet if the Colts will continue to keep their regular quarterback Peyton Manning, who has not played a single game this season, or will seek to his replacement.
The end of the game however was same for the Colts as was their start. They started the outgoing season of the National Football League (NFL) on a loss and their end too was on the same note.
They however will still be happy to have avoided the 0-16 score, which after losing 13 straight games by them looked very much inevitable.
