Jacksonville Jaguars sign Marcedes Lewis, Jason Hill, David Jones and Tyron Brackenridge
Jacksonville Jaguars tight-end, Marcedes Lewis signed his franchise tender which will earn him $7.3 million in the 2011 season, if there is a new collective bargaining agreement in place.
At the end of a long day for the Jaguars, a lot of work has been done. They have decided to release wide-receiver Mike Sims-Walker, who just completed his fourth season with the team, and has also signed wide-receiver Jason Hill, cornerback David Jones and
defensive-back Tyron Brackenridge.
Sims-Walker missed most of his first two seasons with the Jags due to injury, played well in 2009 and followed with his performance slacking again in 2010.
Lewis just finished his fifth season with the Jaguars, where he has made himself known as a strong run-blocker. However, he went to a whole new level as a receiver this season. He had 58 receptions, ten touchdowns and 700 receiving yards to lead the Jags
in all three of these categories as well as having the most receptions, touchdowns and receiving yards in his career.
His ten touchdown receptions tied the team record for most touchdowns and tied the record for most touchdown receptions by a tight end in the entire National Football League (NFL). He was also selected to the Pro Bowl this year at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu,
Hawaii, and was the first tight-end from the Jags to ever go to the Pro Bowl.
The six-foot-six, 275 pound tight end from the University of California, Los Angeles was selected 28th overall by the Jags in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft. Lewis has had 181 receptions for 2,224 yards and 17 touchdowns in his career.
His 2,224 yards are the second most by a tight end in franchise history, while his 17 touchdowns are fourth-most.
The team also signed Hill after he was waived by the San Francisco 49ers in late 2010 and has proved himself to the team. Jones was traded to the Jags from the Cincinnati Bengals in September and played in all 16 games this season. Brackenridge has been
with the Jaguars’ special team for two years now and has also been signed.
