Jacksonville Jaguars take kicker Brandon Coutu in as Josh Scobee’s deal issue lingers on-NFL news
The Jacksonville Jaguars’ place kicker, Josh Scobee, is learnt to have not signed the franchise tender, while there is no progress on his long-term deal prospects.
Both parties are said to be interested in negotiating a long-term contract for the player and in spite of reported initial contact between them, no success has been achieved yet on the issue.
No reports have emerged around the notion that the player has opted against the signing of the tender as a protest to press demand of a lengthy contract.
As of the latest, both sides have agreed to continue talks on the deal matter to find an amicable solution.
Meanwhile, the Jaguars have made some adjustment to other positions on the roster, mostly to serve their need during the organised team activities (OTAs), which are set to start on Tuesday, May 15.
They are reported to have waived rookie cornerback, Dontrell Johnson, and signed kicker, Brandon Coutu.
Jaguars were in need of a kicker since they declined to sign a pair of players for the position after working out with them, holding intentions of adding them to the roster.
The kickers, who once were on the Jaguars’ radar, are Long Ding, the first Chinese-born National Football League (NFL) player and Jay Wooten. Later, they were declined signing by the team.
Coutu, the newly-signed kicker, started his NFL career from the Seattle Seahawks, where he joined as a seventh-round draft pick in 2008.
For some unknown reasons, he remained absent from the league in 2009 and 2010, before returning last year. He could manage to play only last game of the 2011 NFL season while representing the Buffalo Bills.
Before his regular season game, he had spent a week with the Jaguars’ practice squad. Now he has been made a part of Jaguars’ OTAs, again.
Head coach, Mike Mularkey, who joined the team in January this year, will be supervising the activities for the first time. In addition, the team has the new owner, Shahid Khan, on its back.
