Jacksonville Jaguars unmoved by frustration of kicker Josh Scobee, his agent over deal-talk impasse
Kicker Josh Scobee does not know how to re-establish contacts with Jacksonville Jaguars' managers to resolve his long-term contract matter, which at the moment is hit by the communication deadlock between his agent and the management.
Josh’s agent, Ken Harris, said last week that he has not heard from the team since exchange of their proposals in March this year, and the impasse has now reached its threshold for the player.
The player, who is yet to sign his franchise tender in protest to his long-term deal demand, earlier expressed hopes of winning a contract from the team before the deadline of July 16.
Now out of his frustration, he is not showing good faith to the team as they are not starting the negotiation process.
He said:
"I just don't see a point in showing any good faith to the team if they're not going to negotiate. There's no reason for me to show up on my good faith being that I'm the player, I'm the employee, when they choose not to speak. I don't
expect them to reward bad behaviour and I won't reward them with the behaviour that they're treating me with."
Although terms of the offers that Jaguars and the player’s agent have exchanged are unknown, both sides claim their offers are fair, reflecting they will be less flexible at their respective ends.
Scobee has the July 16 deadline to sign the franchise tag, which will help him earn $2.88 million guaranteed over the course of the year. An alternative for him is to refuse signing the tender and sit out the entire season in protest.
The player himself says he is less likely to go for the latter option as it is against his nature to skip any game.
He said:
"I don't see that as being an option. I don't want to miss games or anything like that. That's just not me, that's not me as a person."
In spite of the apparent frustration shown by the player and his agent, Jaguars are unmoved, leaving a big question mark on the player’s prospects of winning a long-term deal.
