Jacob Carstensen claims Men’s 400m freestyle gold: Day seven – FINA World Masters Championships
Jacob Carstensen of Denmark claimed gold medal of the Men’s 400m freestyle in the age class of 30-34 on last day of the 14th Federation Internationale de Natation Amateur (FINA) World Masters Championships 2012 in Riccione, Italy on Saturday,
June 16.
The Danish swimmer served notice of his talent in the 400m discipline as he remained considerably ahead of his opponents throughout the discipline and reached the finishing end for gold medal.
With his astonishing efforts, Carstensen enjoyed a lead of over 10 metres over his closest competitor and tapped the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 01.70 seconds.
His scintillating effort remained nearly thirteen seconds slower from Julien Baillod of Switzerland, who followed him on the victory stand for silver medal by producing a time of 4 minutes and 14.91 seconds.
Third spot of the race was secured by Alessio Morellato of Italy, who remained almost seven seconds apart and hit the finishing end with the timing of 4 minutes and 21.55 seconds.
Morellato was trailed by Roman Evgrafov of Russia, who remained almost two body lengths apart and tapped the finishing end for fourth position with the timing of 4 minutes and 23.32 seconds.
Subsequently, Alexander Schafer of Germany stayed only 0.08 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and secured fifth position of the discipline by producing a time of 4 minutes and 23.40 seconds.
Sixth position of the discipline was secured by Rudy Bertrand of France, who stayed nearly five seconds apart and clocked a timing of 4 minutes and 28.02 seconds.
Bertrand was chased by Chris Grabham of Great Britain, who claimed his eligibility for seventh position of the event by posting a time of 4 minutes and 29.21 seconds.
Similarly, Grabham was trailed by Mathieu David of France, who was just 0.08 seconds apart and tapped the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 29.29 seconds for eighth position.
Furthermore, Carstensen was delighted with his accomplishment in the eight-lap freestyle discipline while the winners were called upon the medal rostrum for awards and accolades at the medal distribution ceremony of the tournament.
