Jacob Oram, New Zealand’s top all-rounder, has decided to extend his cricketing career by turning his focus towards the upcoming International Cricket Council Twenty20 World Cup 2012, which will be held in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
The 33-year-old was uncertain about his career and was considering retirement, but after performing well in the 2011 World Cup, the ageing cricketer feels that he still has some energy in him and can serve the country well.
Revealing his decision to play till next year, Oram said, "This new era is one of the reasons I wanted to keep playing. But another reason is that I see a lot of excitement in the current crop of players and also the changing of support staff."
“Deciding to keep going was more a mental thing than a physical thing but I have reset my targets and my new goal is next year's World Twenty20, which is only 11 months away,” he added.
Oram is working hard on his fitness, so he can perform at the optimum level. The Kiwi superstar wants to end his career on a high by winning a World Cup trophy for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754.
The Black Caps are currently on tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 where they will play two T20 matches, three One-Day Internationals and a solitary Test match.
The series between the two sides will start with a Twenty20 match on Saturday, October 15, at Harare Sports Club.
Oram has warned his side not to become complacent and bring their A-game against a resurging Zimbabwean side. The right-arm pacer holds true that Kiwis should pay respect to the African team as they are quite a decent side and have the capability to cause an upset.
“I think the key to this tour is not getting complacent, not taking Zimbabwe lightly because if we are honest with ourselves, even though we had a very good World Cup, we are not the most consistent side,” said the 33-year-old Oram.
Kiwis will be missing the services of their premium strike bowler, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746.
Zimbabwe themselves will be missing a few names as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Craig-Richard-Ervine-c51733 are sidelined due to a shin and shoulder injury respectively.
