Jacob Pebley captures Boys 100m back-stroke final: Day two – 2011 FINA World Junior Championships
Jacob Pebley of United States claimed the gold medal of Boys 100m back-stroke final on the next day of the 2011 Federation Internationale 3rd World Junior Championships on Wednesday, August 17, in Lima, Peru.
The 18-year-old Pebley remained undisputed throughout his two-lap race and submitted a time of 55.01 seconds for the gold medal. His effort was 0.02 seconds above the championship mark of 54.99 seconds, made by Daniel bell of New Zealand during 2008. He
was 3.07 seconds slower than the world mark of 51.94 seconds, held by American swimmer, Aaron Peirsol from 2009.
Pebley was in a lead of 0.67 seconds over his following swimmer, Fabio Laugeni of Italy, who claimed the silver medal of the event, by reporting a time of 55.68 seconds. In addition, the arena was amazed with the silver winning effort of Laugeni, as he edged
out his following swimmer, Kosuke Hagino of Japan, who ended his swim with a delay of 0.01 seconds, clocking a time of 55.69 seconds.
The fourth position was secured by Jack Conger of United States, who remained only 0.10 seconds slower than his former finisher and ended his swim with a timing of 55.79 seconds. Conger was chased by Christian Diener of Germany, who was 0.26 seconds behind
him and completed his swim in a time of 56.05 seconds.
Moments later, Joshua Beaver of Australia earned sixth fastest spot of the event, as he was 0.14 seconds slower than the fifth position holder and posted a time of 56.19 seconds. Beaver was followed by Omar Arafa of Canada, who was only 0.07 seconds away
from him and clocked a seventh fastest time of 56.26 seconds.
Meanwhile, Henrique Machado of Brazil was the last swimmer to conclude his 100m swim, as he was 0.39 seconds away from overwhelming the effort of Arafa, by producing a time of 56.65 seconds.
The crowd was thrilled with the commendable swims of all participants, while the arena is excited to see what happens in the upcoming events.
