Jacob Pebley wins Boys 200m back-stroke gold medal: Day six – 3rd World Junior Championships
Jacob Pebley of Japan conquered the title of Boys 200m back-stroke meet on the sixth day of the 3rd World Junior Championships, supervised by the Federation Internationale De Natation (FINA) on Sunday, August 21, in Lima, Peru.
Pebley earned the gold medal of the event, by clocking a phenomenal time of 1 minute and 58.73 seconds. His time was comfortably under the previous championship mark of 1 minute and 59.67 seconds, made by Kurt Basset of New Zealand in 2008. Pebley also remained
nearly seven seconds slower from the world record of 1 minute and 51.92 seconds, set by Aaron Peirsol of USA in 2009.
Pebley was in a lead of 0.21 seconds over his following swimmer, Kosuke Hagino of Japan, who stepped on the podium for the silver medal by submitting a time of 1 minute and 58.94 seconds. Hagino was followed by Ryan Murphy of United States, as he remained
0.69 seconds slower than his former finisher and touched the finishing wall in a time of 1 minute and 59.63 seconds.
The fourth spot was secured by Fabio Laugeni of Italy, who ended his swim behind Murphy, with a timing of 2 minutes and 00.21 seconds. Laugeni was chased by Christian Diener of Germany, who stayed 0.93 seconds slower than his foregoing swimmer, Laugeni,
and clocked a fifth fastest time of 2 minutes and 01.14 seconds.
Meanwhile, Jeffrey Swanston of Canada transpired as the sixth fastest swimmer of the four-lap swim, as he ended his swim to post a time of 2 minutes and 02.23 seconds. He was followed by Joshua Beaver of Australia, who remained just 0.06 seconds behind Swanston
and earned the seventh position of the event, with a timing of 2 minutes and 02.29 seconds. Yan Jin of China was the last swimmer to finish his swim, as he produced a time of 2 minutes and 04.97 seconds.
The arena acknowledged the wonderful swim of all participants, while the winners were placed on the medal rostrum for their immaculate efforts after the session's completion.
