Jacob Turner looking to grab the fifth starting spot on Tigers’ pitching rotation – MLB News

According to a leading sports website, Tigers pitcher Jacob Turner will make his first Major League Baseball start of this season on Wednesday at Joker Marchant Stadium against Atlanta Braves. Turner is one of the most promising prospects in MLB right now.
He displayed some high quality pitching skills on his debut last season as he struck out 6 batters in 5.1 innings with 2 earned runs, 3 hits and 3 walks.
Baseball America has named the starter as Tigers’ No. 1 prospect. Overall, he was placed 21st on the list of best prospects from 2011. Not only is the guy an amazing athlete, he also has the ability to play his natural game under pressure. He
is always looking to learn new tricks to improve his throwing technique, which makes a special player to have in the team.
Turner is expected to be the first fifth starting candidate for the Tigers in Spring Training. Without any doubts, the competition for the fifth starting spot is going to be a tough one and Turner will have to be very best in the game against Braves to secure
that spot. Pitching with control and accuracy in a game against Braves on Saturday, he is a given clear evidence of his strong will to grab the available starting spot.
"He threw some good pitches," Leyland said, "but Jacob knows it's a process. He working in the direction of when that moment comes for him, he'll be ready."
"As I've told you guys," he further added, "don't read anything into who's starting and when. The only clue we have is that we know there's the potential in this camp to have a good fifth starter. That we know. I was talking about that today with all the
coaches. We truly believe that we have the guy. Who it is, we don't know. But we think we have pretty nice pickings."
Tigers’ manager Jim Leyland has praised Turner’s performances in 2011 and he has also given an indication that the Tigers will not have to look elsewhere to fill the vacant spot. It will be interesting to see if the guy can live up to the hype during regular
season.
