Jacob Volkmann secures a win over Efrain Escudero at
UFC 141 by unanimous decision - UFC News
The American mixed martial art (MMA) fighter, Jacob Volkmann, was in top form as he defeated Mexican MMA fighter, Efrain Escudero, at Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) 141 by a unanimous decision of 29-28, 29-28, 29-28. The
event was held on December 30, 2011 in Las Vegas, Nevada, with both fighters facing each other in the lightweight bout.
The Mexican fighter threw some of his kicks in the opening round but failed to cause any damage to his opponent. Volkmann was searching for an opening in the early goings of the first round and he eventually found one when he grabbed
Escudero leg to take him down. This was a sudden blow for the Mexican but he held his nerves and kept looking for a submission move. Escudero grabbed Volkmann’s head and went for the guillotine choke but failed to completely lock his opponent.
Volkmann gained the advantage in the combat when he got top of his opponent and went for his grappling moves over the Mexican. Escudero soon changed position and used his kicks to get out of the predicament, missing his target
once again. It was interesting to note that both fighters were doing much of a ground fight and were not throwing punches or leg strikes. This made the crowd frustrated, as it started chanting against the fighters, depicting that their interest in the fight
was fading away. The first round was unproductive as the two fighters stood up before the bell rang.
The moment the second round began, Volkmann lunched his attack without losing any time. With speed and power, he went for the legs of Escudero for a takedown. Escudero was again using his mind and did not let his opponent topple
him. He went for the submission move but again Volkmann again avoided his lock by sheer agility.
Both were doing more of wrestling and ground fighting instead of giving body shots. The crowd kept losing its interest in the fight as the sloppy second round progressed. Escudero was striving to attain some control over his opponent
after getting up on his feet and was looking for a strike but as the second round drew closer to its finish, Volkmann got an upper hand by throwing his opponent and pinning him with the cage. Volkmann might have finished him off with some face shots but the
time for the second round ended at the very moment.
For both the fighters, the third round was an important one. The American MMA fighter boldly came closer to Escudero and looked to strike him down but he went for the takedown. Volkmann was unable to successfully takedown his opponent
throughout the fight and his carried on the same fashion in the third round as well, making an halfhearted attempt for a takedown. Volkmann also went for the guillotine choke and felt as if he would succeed but his opponent squeezed himself out of the lock.
Neither of the two fighters could do any damage as the third round also wrapped up. The judges announced Volkmann as the winner of the fight with scores of 29-28, 29-28, 29-28.
