Jacoby Ellsbury glows as Boston Red Sox defeat New York Yankees 7-4 – Game 2
Boston Red Sox centre-fielder, Jacoby Ellsbury had a tremendous day with the bat as he hit three RBIs including a one-run homer and went 2-for-7 with an ERA of .322 in the Red Sox 7-4 win against the New York Yankees in the second game of the double-header
at Yankee Stadium, New York on September 25.
At the bottom of first inning, Yankees contributed three runs to take a 3-0 lead. Mark Teixeira drove a double-run shot towards deep centre-field while Curtis Granderson and Robinson Cano both scored two collective runs. Red Sox catcher, Jason Varitek committed
a throwing error and Teixeira scored the third run for the Yankees.
The batters did not show a classy performance with the bat and were unable to score from the second to fourth inning. Yankees’ designated hitter Jesus Montero hit a double-run drive to left-field and Austin Romine singled off right-field at the bottom of
the second inning but Eduardo Nunez and Granderson both popped out without scoring runs.
In the third inning, Marco Scutaro singled off right-field but Varitek ground out, Ellsbury struck-out and J.D. Drew flied out to left-field without contributing even a single run for Boston. Montero walked during the fourth but Endy Chavez struck-out. Chris
Dickerson hit a grounder into double play, pitcher to short-stop position and short-stop to first base but Montero got out at second base.
Red Sox scored one run to cut their deficit 3-1 at the top of the fifth inning. Jed Lowrie completed one run when Drew hit a single-run drive to right-centre. Adrian Gonzalez ground out to first base during sixth inning but Carl Crawford posted one run to
reduce the Red Sox lead 3-2. Dustin Pedroia occupied third base to finish the sixth inning.
During the seventh, Red Sox went ahead by scoring two runs while Yankees added a single run to tie the game 4-4. Mike Aviles posted one run when Scutaro bunted a double-run drive to deep left-field. The second run was taken by Scutaro when Varitek singled
off centre-field.
On the other side, Gardner scored a tie run for the Yankees when Dickerson hit a sacrifice fly to centre-field. In the 14th inning, Red Sox blasted three quick runs to take a 7-4 lead.
Despite this fabulous win, Red Sox lost the three-game series 2-1 against the Yankees at New York.
