Jacoby Ellsbury’s double RBIs help Boston Red Sox defeat Baltimore Orioles 4-0 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox centre-fielder, Jacoby Ellsbury had a remarkable day with the bat as he hit two RBIs and went 2-for-4 with two runs in the Red Sox 4-0 win against the Baltimore Orioles at Oriole Park, Baltimore on July 20.
Dustin Pedroia was grounded out to third base, Kevin Youkilis struck-out looking and Ellsbury grounded out to second base at the top of the first inning. Similarly, the Orioles’ batters also did not manage to take runs and got out as J.J. Hardy flied out
to centre-field and Nick Markakis struck-out looking, at the bottom of the first inning.
In the second inning, Carl Crawford singled off centre-field but the rest of the batters got out as Josh Reddick lined out to third base and Jason Varitek grounded out to second base on his sluggish shot. Derrek Lee popped out to second base and Robert Andino
also got out to second base at the bottom of the second inning.
The Red Sox batters scored their first run during the third inning when Ellsbury hit a one-run homer (401 feet) towards right-field. In the fourth inning, Varitek was grounded out to second base but Reddick posted a single run to raise the Red Sox lead 2-0.
Crawford moved to third base at the end of the fourth inning.
The batters were struck-out in the fifth and sixth inning as they did not connect with the ball correctly. The Red Sox starter, Andrew Miller pitched beautifully as he gifted just two hits without any run in just over five innings pitched and had three strike-outs
on his 103 pitches. Miller permitted six walks to the Orioles’ batters but they were unable to get runs.
During the seventh inning, Ellsbury struck his second homer (379 feet) of the game towards right-field to give the Red Sox a 3-0 lead. The Red Sox batters took a 4-0 lead at the top of the eighth inning by posting one run. Crawford walked and Adrian Gonzalez
scored a single run. Reddick occupied second base at the end of eighth inning.
The Orioles’ batters failed to score runs in the ninth inning as Nolan Reimold flied out to left-field and Mark Reynolds struck-out swinging. With this impressive win, the Red Sox clinched the three-game series 2-1 at Baltimore.
