Jacque Vaughn wants Glen Davis to be in top form for the training camp – NBA News
Now that Jacque Vaughn knows that he will be the head coach of the Orlando Magic for the coming season, he is getting down to business.
He has a huge task ahead of him as the Magic try to make something out of next season after all the drama involving Dwight Howard. Vaughn has started having discussions with the Magic team members and he recently met with Glen
Davis, who was traded to Orlando from Boston last season.
Davis will likely be the starting four of the Magic next season, and Vaughn has some encouraging words for the big guy.
While talking to the Orlando Sentinel, Davis referred to his recent meeting with Vaughn and said:
“Just making sure that you’re ready. You’re going to have the opportunity to be a contributor here. You’re going to have the opportunity to do big things, and you just be ready, making sure that you come in [to training camp Oct.
1] the right way, in the right shape, and just holding me accountable,” said Davis referring to what Vaughn said to him.
Davis arrived at training camp last season a little soft and heavy, and took some time to get into shape. Vaughn does not want him to repeat the same this year, and is expecting him to be in good shape and ready to go as the coach
attempts to make a winning combination out of a disoriented team.
The Big Baby was impressed with the new head coach, saying that he admired him for his fire and thirst for being successful'
“He’s a wonderful guy. His upside is just amazing. Where he’s been in his life and his career, the things that he’s encountered as far as a basketball level and things like that is high. I called him a ‘thirsty dog,” said Davis.
Vaughn will have his shot at fame next season when he coaches the Orlando Magic, a team that has been involved in controversy for the past few months.
The firing of head coach Stan Van Gundy and subsequent request by All Star centre Dwight Howard to be traded has left the team unsure about the future. Attempts to trade Howard have been fruitless so far, and the Magic may very
well open next season with Howard still on the roster. Coping with a disgruntled Howard will be the biggest in a list of challenges for Vaughn.
