Jacqueline Freney grabs Women’s 50m butterfly gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Jacqueline Freney of Australia grabbed gold medal of the Women’s 50m butterfly in S7 category on day two of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Friday, August 31.
Freney showered her expertise in the shortest butterfly discipline as she overpowered her rivals over the finishing blockade for gold medal. With her persistent efforts, Freney faced no trouble from her opponents throughout the swim and finished first.
She remained full body length ahead of her challengers in the race and tapped the wall for gold medal by clocking a nice time of 35.16 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Brianna Nelson of Canada, who stayed 0.87 seconds away from her preceding swimmer and secured silver medal of the event with a wonderful effort of 36.03 seconds.
Nelson was chased by Min Huang of China, who remained nearly half a second apart and proved her mettle for bronze medal of the race by touching the wall with a timing of 36.50 seconds.
The bronze medallist was followed by Susannah Rodgers of Great Britain, who stayed 1.04 seconds behind and settled on the finishing blockade as fourth fastest swimmer with an effort of 37.54 seconds.
Rodgers was traced by Ani Palian of Ukraine, who stayed 1.17 seconds apart and completed her race in fifth fastest place with an effort of 38.71 seconds.
Palian enjoyed an advantage of half body length over Xu Tan of China, who concluded her race in sixth best place by clocking a time of 39.14 seconds.
Similarly, Tan remained in a lead of 0.49 seconds over Veronica Almeida of Brazil, who transpired on the finishing blockade as seventh fastest swimmer by posting a time of 39.63 seconds.
The Brazilian swimmer remained 0.30 seconds away from Sarah Mehain of Canada, who failed to surpass any of her opponents and surfaced on the wall as eighth fastest swimmer by clocking a time of 39.93 seconds.
In addition, Freney was overjoyed with her stupendous form in the event and expressed that she would train harder to improve her timing at the upcoming swimming events.
