Jacqueline Freney seizes Women’s 100m freestyle gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Jacqueline Freney of Australia seized gold medal of the Women’s 100m freestyle in S7 category on fifth day of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Monday, September 3.
Freney continued her medal haul on day five of the Games, as she showed no mercy to her opponents and emerged on the finishing blockade for the crown of the event.
With her immaculate efforts in the double lap freestyle event, Freney broke the Paralympic record of the event as she proved her mettle for the title in a time of 1 minute and 09.39 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Cortney Jordan of USA, who stayed two and a half body length behind and touched the wall for second position by producing a time of 1 minute and 11.63 seconds.
Jordan was traced by Susannah Rodgers of Great Britain, who stayed 0.98 seconds apart and completed the podium by winning bronze medal of the race with a timing of 1 minute and 12.61 seconds.
Fourth position of the race was obtained by Ani Palian of Ukraine, who was 1.06 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and hit the wall by submitting a time of 1 minute and 13.67 seconds.
Palian was followed by Kirsten Bruhn of Germany, who stayed nearly 0.80 seconds apart and appeared on the finishing wall as fifth best finisher by clocking a time of 1 minute and 14.43 seconds.
Sixth position of the discipline was secured by Liting Ke of China, who suffered a loss of nearly three body lengths from her foregoing finisher and reported a time of 1 minute and 17.15 seconds.
Ke was chased by Brianna Nelson of Canada, who stayed just half body length behind and posted a time of 1 minute and 17.77 seconds for seventh position.
Nelson remained 0.26 seconds faster from Jieun Kim of Korea, who secured eighth position of the race by clocking a time of 1 minute and 18.03 seconds.
Freney was contented with her gold securing effort in the discipline and received medal for her laudable effort after the session.
