Jacqueline Freney seizes Women’s 200m IM gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Jacqueline Freney of Australia seized gold medal of the Women’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) in SM7 category on day four of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Sunday, September 2.
Freney remained in a remarkable lead over her opponents from the start and with her unrelenting efforts, she not only made her way to the finishing wall for gold medal but also lowered the world record of the event.
She continued her astonishing efforts in the race and earned her way towards the wall for the crown of the event by submitting a new world record time of 2 minutes and 54.42 seconds.
Her gold winning effort remained 10.18 seconds faster from Brianna Nelson of Canada, who occupied silver medal of the event by hitting the wall with a timing of 3 minutes and 04.60 seconds.
Nelson was followed by Min Huang of China, who stayed three body lengths behind and tapped the wall for bronze medal by submitting a time of 3 minutes and 07.51 seconds.
Huang was chased by Cortney Jordan of USA, who remained 0.98 seconds slower from overwhelming the third position holder and reported a time of 3 minutes and 08.49 seconds for fourth position.
Jordan was traced by Susana Ribeiro of Brazil, who remained nearly two seconds behind and ended her swim in fifth best place by clocking a time of 3 minutes and 10.42 seconds.
The Brazilian swimmer was trailed by Nikita Howarth of New Zealand, who was only 0.06 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and touched the wall with an effort of 3 minutes and 10.48 seconds.
Howarth was chased by Sarah Mehain of Canada, who remained one and a half body length behind and touched the wall with a timing of 3 minutes and 12.06 seconds for seventh position.
Eighth position of the race was obtained by Oxana Guseva of Russian Federation, who stayed nearly four body lengths apart and posted a time of 3 minutes and 15.87 seconds.
Furthermore, Freney received massive appreciation from the crowd for her unstoppable efforts after the event.
