Despite his impressive all-round record, Jacques Kallis has brushed off any comparisons with the former greats of the game, claiming he is motivated by the desire to play and win, rather than the drive to increase his stats or invite comparisons with yesteryear’s
legends.
Kallis has been hailed as a formidable cricketer by many, among them http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Donald-George-Bradman-c54397, Kallis was second-best cricketer
of all time. However, the accolades and comparisons mean little to the Proteas all-rounder.
“I've never been one that likes to compare players or eras,” said Kallis. “Yesteryear's players would have had some unbelievable achievements as well as they'd had the opportunity to play as much as we did.
“Obviously, it's an honour to be compared with those guys but I've never been one to worry too much about that sort of stuff,” he went on to add. “I play the game of cricket because I love winning games of cricket, and contributing to winning games of cricket
gives me the most satisfaction, rather than stats or who you're being compared to.”
Despite his lack of concern regarding his stats, Kallis currently boasts a formidable record – he has played a total of 155 Tests (with 12641 runs and 280 wickets to his credit) and 321 ODIs (11498 runs and 270 scalps) for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757. In addition, he has
also played a total of 143 T20s, with 3872 runs and 83 scalps to his name.
In addition to playing down the comparisons, Kallis also went on to credit his body-type for his impressive longevity, claiming he had been lucky to have avoided injuries. The 37-year-old, who is part of the South African squad currently on tour in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746,
has featured for the Proteas fairly consistently, as compared with other all-rounders.
Australian star all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Watson-c2558, for example, has put forth some impressive displays with both bat and ball, but has also frequently been undone by a string of injuries, the most recent one being a calf injury which has ruled him out of the XI for
the first Test match against the Proteas.
