At the twilight of an illustrious career, South Africa’s ace all-rounder, Jacques Kallis, believes that a good tour of England will be an icing on the cake but understands that a player of his calibre does not need to change his technique to be successful.
The 36-year-old is considered among the greatest all-rounders of the game along with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imran-Khan-c64237.
The top-order batsman however, has not been too successful in England over the years, as he averages merely 29.30 in the country, quite contrary to his career stats of 56.78 runs per innings.
While talking to the media yesterday at the Oval, the legendary cricketer expressed that he is not fazed by the past record and is just focussing on the upcoming three-match series, in which he must play a significant role, if the Proteas are to challenge
the Poms.
"I couldn't tell you why that is, I wouldn't know," Kallis said yesterday. "I'm not one that worries too much about what happens in previous innings."
The cricketer from Cape Province believes that a player must start every series with a fresh mental approach, adding that the success or the failures in past count for nothing, when you are about to start a new battle.
The all-rounder is geared up to score massive runs in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 but expressed that the team’s success is more important for him at this stage of his career.
"You don't get a head start from doing well in a previous innings or a previous tour. Every new tour, you start with 0 behind your name. It's not like formula one where you get pole position. That's the way I approach my career. It will be nice if I can
have a big tour but if I have a bad tour and we win, I'll take that as well," he added.
Out of his 42 Test centuries, the great batsman has only one in England, which is quite an astonishing record, taking into account his performances in the rest of the world and a technique, any world-class batsman would be proud of.
