After witnessing a disastrous injury to his closest colleague, Mark Boucher, South Africa’s ace all-rounder, Jacques Kallis, is devastated and confessed that he has been emotionally drained out in the last couple of days.
The wicketkeeper/batsman was struck by a dislodged bail in his eye, which ended an illustrious career in an extremely depressing manner.
Most of the cricket pundits believe that Boucher was expected to play a massive role in the forthcoming series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, as he is more than handy as a lower-middle order batsman, apart from being one of the safest glovemen in the game’s rich history.
Kallis however, is more concerned about the keeper’s health, as the two happen to be the closest mates for many years now. The all-rounder remained with Boucher throughout his time in the hospital and expressed that everyone (Boucher’s family and teammates)
can feel the wicketkeeper’s pain.
The great all-rounder mentioned, "It's not about cricket anymore. It's about a mate and hoping he recovers fully. It puts cricket and life into perspective. It's been a very tough 24 hours not only for myself but for his family and team-mates."
Boucher has been an integral part of the South African team since debuting in 1997 and after Kallis, he was the most senior player in the side, naturally earning the respect of every one.
The manager of South African team, Mohammed Moosajee, admitted that the incident has hampered the Proteas’ progress on the tour as the players are not able to concentrate on the game. He further added that the team did not want to continue their practice
match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Somerset-c843 but proceeded as Boucher would have wanted the team to show fight and character.
"Guys are fluctuating at the moment," Moosajee said. "It's all going to hit home and there is a very human element to it. They're professional sportsmen though. Although most of them would rather not have played today, they know Boucher would love nothing
more than for us to play well in England as a whole."
The Proteas will play another side match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kent-c802 before taking on the world’s number one ranked Test team.
