Jacques Kallis steadies the ship for South Africa in final Test
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 extended their lead to 119 runs by the lunch session of the fourth day’s play at Newlands. Runs were not easy to get, and five of the home side’s batsmen have lost their wickets, including night-watchman Paul Harris.
The day started positively for India as Harbhajan Singh continued his devastating form. He had dismissed the first two batsmen yesterday evening, and he got http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 going in the first session today. The first wicket to fall was that of Alviro Petersen. He
only managed one run on the fourth day before he was out for 22 runs. He was followed by Hashim Amla soon after. Amla was dismissed after adding just two runs to the total.
The Proteas were 64 for four at one stage, before Jacques Kallis was joined by AB De Villers at the crease. Both batsmen put together a 34-run partnership before Devilliers was dismissed after getting yet another start. He was bowled by Zaheer Khan. Devilliers
was a bit unlucky though, as the ball had deflected from his bat onto the stumps.
After that Ashwell Prince and Kallis made sure that they got their team through to lunch without losing another wicket. At lunch, Kallis was unbeaten at 33 whereas Prince managed to score 16 runs. Kallis didn’t take the field after he got injured in the
first innings, and the team stated that he would only come out to bat only if needed. He is the main stay for South Africa, and the team will be hoping that he gets another big score to rescue the Proteas from trouble.
India however, will be delighted with the performance of their bowlers, especially Harbhajan. The veteran off-spinner took full advantage of the conditions and grabbed four of the five wickets to fall so far. The only other wicket-taker was Zaheer Khan,
but the other bowlers also bowled well and didn’t give away too many runs to the South Africans.
The match is still evenly poised at this stage. Both teams will look forward to the next session. The post-lunch session may prove to be the turning point of the match, as both sides will look to attack each other.
