Jacques Rudolph positive ahead of second Test – Cricket News Update
South African opener, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758. The left-hander is positive but was concerned about having to make the right
shot selections in order to convert his starts into big scores.
The Proteas’ ran riot over their opponents in the first Test, claiming an easy win by an innings and 81 runs. It was mainly attributed to the heroics of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Vernon-Philander-c2753 where the seamer produced another magical display of seam bowling to end the game with
match figures of 10 for 102.
However, it wasn’t easy sailing for Rudolph, who could manage 44, consuming a total of 140 balls. His bout although remained the highest he has scored since his return to the national team for the Australian series.
With substantial starts, he has failed to convert them into noteworthy contributions, and so has decided to travel to Durban in advance, along with fellow teammate and fast bowler, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/M-Morkel-c73528.
"We saw it as a win-win situation," Rudolph told ESPNcricinfo. "It gives us a nice opportunity to practice down here and my wife and his [Morkel's] girlfriend can have a bit of a holiday."
"It is in the back of my mind to try and convert those scores," Rudolph said. "The way I played in Centurion is more the way I want to play cricket, to be positive but a little more selective."
As for Morkel, the player has also been suffering from a dip in form where he been relegated to bowling first change due to the rise in stature of fellow pacer, Philander. Also with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LL-Tsotsobe-c1842 and Marchant de Lange in contention, he needs to be performing
at his best in order to retain his place in the side.
Rudolph feels that the pacer will soon regain his confidence and will make a strong comeback in the second Test, starting on Boxing Day.
"He bowled really well and I think you can expect a lot from him in this Test, he is getting his lengths right."
