Jacques Villeneuve says 2011 championship is Sebastian Vettel’s to lose – Formula 1 news
Former Formula 1 driver Jacques Villeneuve has stated that the 2011 championship is Sebastian Vettel’s to lose.
Jacques added that Vettel has a perfect scenario around him which is all that is needed to win the title.
The 1997 Formula 1 winner also stated that Vettel is the favourite of the 2011 season and will win the championship easily if he does not do anything reckless.
Vettel has taken six wins out of the first eight races of the 2011 Formula 1 season and has come second in the other two. He is 77 points ahead of the second driver in the drivers’ title battle, McLaren’s Jenson Button.
Jacques commented, “This year, definitely, the favourite is Vettel. He's going to win it very easily unless he does something stupid. His car is incredible and he has a very strong team, everyone is behind him, the mechanics, the sponsors, and a great car.
When things are like that, you're in the clouds, nothing can go wrong.”
The German had some very desperate races in the 2010 season in which, although eventually he won, he crashed out on a few occasions because of being stuck behind lower ranked cars.
Although in the 2011 season, the German is going smoothly but it is due to the fact that he is leading most of the races until now. Vettel has taken seven pole positions in the ongoing 2011 season.
However, after the Blown Diffuser is clamped, it is expected that Vettel will lose some seconds and will fall behind some front running cars. It is then that the German might get frustrated and start making mistakes.
The Blown Diffuser is going to be clamped from the Silverstone Grand Prix and despite Red Bull being in the lead already, they will feel some pressure.
The Silverstone Grand Prix will be contested on July 10, 2011 and will be the ninth race of the season but the first one without the Blown Diffuser.
