Jacques Villeneuve says that Sebastian Vettel is still very immature – Formula 1 news
Former champion Jacques Villeneuve, who won the F1 title in 1997, thinks that two time champion Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing behaves immaturely as compared to Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso.
“For me, it has confirmed what I think about Vettel,” Villeneuve told about the race in Abu Dhabi. “These are facts: while recovering from the back, he first got in contact with Senna who was ahead of him and damaged his front wing. Then he lost control
of his car and crashed under the safety car. A very serious error that had light consequences. As for the rest, he has shown to be super quick, but he was lucky and I'm not changing my mind: Alonso deserves the 2012 title more.”
He is putting his money on Alonso to win this season’s championship as he thinks that the Ferrari driver reacts much more maturely when the pressure situations require it. He is without doubts that Alonso is the better driver in this fight for the title.
He pointed out that the older driver has the ability to remain mentally strong, emotionally calm and think rationally when things become unpredictable. Meanwhile, Vettel has the maturity level of a child, gets angry and upset easily.
He does not refuse the fact that Vettel is quicker and makes it very hard to overtake him if he takes the lead in a race. However, he becomes quite vulnerable when not in favourable situations.
On the other hand, the American F1 champion, Mario Andretti, has hailed Vettel predicting that it will be very hard for Ferrari to catch up with Red Bull. He is sure that the Yas Marina incident was just a one off out of which the team must have learnt its
lesson.
Alonso had been dominant earlier in the season but then lost his lead to Vettel. The Red Bull driver won four races consecutively, only breaking his streak at the Abu Dhabi GP. Before that he was leading by 13 points but it has now been narrowed down to
10.
Vettel himself does not underestimate Alonso and expects anything to happen by the end of season.
