Jacques Villeneuve states that Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel needs "psychological maturity"
Jacques Villeneuve, the French-Canadian automobile race driver and the son of former Formula One driver, believes that the reigning world champion, Sebastian Vettel, needs a lot more "psychological maturity".
While talking to the media, he agreed that the German has great racing talent and might be seen as a strong contender again this year but Villeneuve reckons that Vettel still needs to learn a lot more regarding his attitude and character. The 1997 world
champion explained to reporters, "That Vettel is very quick, there is no doubt. The question has always been his psychological maturity."
Villeneuve pointed out the 2010 Turkish Grand Prix, explaining that the racer displayed immature behaviour during the race and also after the crash. At the Istanbul track last season the Red Bull duo, Mark Webber and Vettel bumped into each other in the
last lap when the two were heading for a certain 1-2 finish for the team. The unfortunate accident deprived Vettel a race finish while Webber had to settle for third place behind two McLaren men.
Villeneuve believes that the crash could have been avoided or at least the tension in the team after the accident could have been avoided if Vettel behaved more wisely. This is not the first time that the driver has been pointed out for his immature behavior.
The McLaren team boss, Martin Whitmarsh, after a poor race move by Vettel at the Belgian Grand Prix, proclaimed that the 23-year-old must race in some junior Formulae until he is ready to take part in Formula 1.
Some people in the series believe that his attitude is the psychological aftermath of the fact that he is among the youngest racers to enter the sport and of course, the youngest world champion in the 61 years’ history of Formula 1.
However, Formula 1 Supremo, Bernie Ecclestone, has a completely different opinion about the driver. Earlier this year, the 80-year-old exclaimed that he would love to see the driver date one of his daughters. He further expressed his desire to become the
‘father-in-law’ of the young champion in the upcoming years.
