Jadanna seeking first graded win in Bet365 Molecomb Stakes at Goodwood
After a couple of unlucky rides, Jadanna will attempt to register her first success at the graded level in the Group 3 Bet365 Molecomb Stakes, taking place at Goodwood on Tuesday, July 31st.
After sealing two emphatic wins at the start of this season, the 2-year-old stepped up to the higher level, but failed to make an impact. The Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes saw her finishing fifth behind Ceiling Kitty.
Under Frankie Dettori, she raced very well in the beginning, but staying on same pace inside the final furlong allowed others to take the prize away from her.
James Given’s trainee showed plenty of improvement over six furlongs, when ending up third in the Group 2 Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Cherry Hinton Stakes at Newmarket earlier this month. She gave a lot of hard time to Maureen, but Richard Hannon’s trainee
eventually seized the second spot by a neck’s distance.
The filly looked quite solid over six furlongs, but the trainer dropped her back to five on advice of the rider, Frankie Dettori. In the hands of Paul Mulrennan, Jadanna won the Hilary Needler Trophy over this distance at Beverley. Paying full heed to his
jockey’s suggestion, Given has entered the filly in today’s five-furlong meeting.
"Maureen has obviously forwarded our case and she came out of Newmarket very well - she has had a perfect preparation and hasn't missed a single day's work since then," said Given.
He continued: "She did a nice breeze last week and I think she was last off the bridle in the Cherry Hinton, although the ground was much different that day. Frankie's last words as he got off her was 'run her in the Molecomb and I'll ride her for you'."
On the other hand, Richard Hannon is being represented by two star runners, Dominate and Lyric Ace. The latter showed some improvement at Newbury after finishing 15th in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot last month.
The handler also noticed the progress, and said ahead of the race: "Lyric Ace scoped bad after disappointing at Royal Ascot, but he then ran well in the Super Sprint at Newbury.”
