  1. You can request to have smear tests from when you become sexually active, generally speaking, in the UK, smear tests in England are offered once you reach 25 (I think it's 20 in Scotland). From what I read, she had been having abnormal cell changes with her last few smear tests, I think these cells were removed. It is odd why this all has not been picked up until now. I think it has taught us all a lesson of the importance of having regular smears, from what I read this am, the cancer is fairly advanced with the risk it has already spread.

In the US they are slightly more aggressive with regards to the frequency of smear testing, it is done yearly from when you reach the age of 18 or when you first have s*x (which ever comes first) in the UK smears are done 3 yearly. I do however, feel offering the first smear test at 25 is a little to long, considering the age of consent in the UK is 16, that's almost 10 years from when one first has s*x (obviously this is assuming one has s*x at 16, many don't, but so many do and before that time)

I think it needs to be looked at again the age in which smears are first offered, so many girls our age are getting C of the cervix now, this is the problem with politicians who think they know more than Dr's. Although, statistically speaking it is still very rare for girls our age to develop C of the Cervix.

  2. I had my first one as I turned 20. That is normal. You also get one at 23 or so because they test you every few years.

  3. Maybe she started having s*x at an early age.

I dunno to be honest, just a guess

  4. I think its strange that Jade has had treatment in the past for abnormal cells so I don't understand how it has developed to stage 2 cancer. If you have treatment for abnormal cells you usually go back 6 months later and then yearly for check ups so it will hopefully never develop to cancer as they keep a close eye on you.

  5. you have your first smear at 20 usually

  6. A lot might depend on family history, but younger and younger women are dying of cervical cancer. Also you can get an abnormal smear, then they wait and the next is normal and so on. I doubt she'd ignored them

  7. I had my first smear when I was 19, though I had a baby when I was 18.  That may have made a difference.  Isn't it to do with your health records back dating as far as possible?

  8. Well, here in Australia we are meant to have them from age 18, or after we become sexually active.  I doubt if she had been ignoring abnormalities - sometimes doctors advise to do nothing especially if it's a low grade abnormality because they can clear up on their own.

  9. Well, it depends on when you start intercourse and if you have symptoms, where you live (health authority protocol)....I feel sorry for her and the kids.
