Jadson Andre and CJ Hobgood pass through Round 2 of Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach unharmed
Brazil’s Jadson Andre and America’s CJ Hobgood confirmed their place in the third round of the latest Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Tour, Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach, which kept the action running at Bells Beach in Victoria, Australia, on
Wednesday, April 4.
Andre took the win over his fellow countryman Heitor Alves in the seventh heat to advance through into the next round of the competition while removing the latter from the contention for the event title.
The eighth heat saw Hobgood get the better of Brazil’s Miguel Pupo to move into the third round, consequently eliminating his rival from the event.
The fans kept getting treated to a heavy dose of thrilling surfing action of the second day of Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach as the world’s top surfers kept batting for survival in clean four-to-five foot waves that were breaking at the beach.
Failing to make a solid impact in their Round 1 heats, both Andre and Alves needed to give their best to overcome each other and clinch the Round 3 spot. Another stumble was going to result in elimination from the competition, compelling the two Brazilians
to hold nothing back during their man-on-man battle.
As the heat got underway, Alves got off to a decent start, scoring a 6.93 off his first business-wave in the opening minutes. Almost half-way through the heat, he added an additional 7.03 to his account to finish with a heat-total of 13.96 points.
Andre began his charge in the mid stages, unloading a string of exquisite tricks on it to post an 8.10 on the score-board. In the dying minutes of the heat, he scored an 8.83 off his second business-wave to finish with a heat-total of 16.93 points, consequently
walking away with the win.
The eighth heat saw an intense battle between Hobgood and Pupo, fighting tooth and nail for the Round 3 spot.
Hobgood scored a 5.93 off his first business-wave and backed it up with an impressive 7.67-point wave to finish with a heat-total of 13.60 points.
Pupo had no intention of letting his rival enjoy an upper hand and carried out a determined hunt for good scores. Scoring a 6.23 and 6.77 off his best-two waves, the Brazilian surfer finished with a heat-total of 13.00 points, consequently surrendering victory
to his rival and getting eliminated from the competition.
