Jae Hwan Kim disposes Sean Berman in the first round of Boys’ Singles – US Open 2011
Korean qualifier, Jae Hwan Kim, registered victory against the unseeded American, Sean Berman, in the opening round of Boys’ Singles category at the US Open championships on Monday afternoon.
The contest was played on the Court 10 the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows Park, of Queens, New York City, United States, with Kim standing tall to make it to the second round of the Grand Slam
event.
The Korean took down his opponent in straight sets, settling the final scores at 6-4, 7-6(2), in one hour and forty minutes of play to eject Berman from the Us Open with ease. The contest remained pretty much one-sided, with Kim
dominating for most of the time to come out as the winner in the end. He raced through the games, with some resistance from the American opponent but kept focused in the contest to register victory.
Despite of a below par serve of merely 48 per cent, Kim reeled off 27 out of 37 first serve points in the contest. Berman secured 30 out of 43 points but failed to match the pace of his opponent in the game to lose the contest
in the end. He converted two of his four break points, while Kim nailed three out of seven break point conversions to come on top of his opponent in the game.
The opener took off with aggressive tennis from both contestants, with Kim drawing first blood in the third game to lead 2-1. Berman retaliated immediately in the next game to bring the Korean back on even terms but Kim stung another
break point to get the upper hand in the contest once again. He held his lead with authority to close out the first set at 6-4 to get 1-0 in the matchup.
The following set witnessed more intense tennis from both boys and no serve breaks were seen in the first 10 games. Berman dropped serve once again in the 11th game but snatched back the advantage from Kim in the very
next game to enforce a tie breaker round at 6-6. Berman lost all his steam in the decider and his errant stroke play awarded some easy points to Kim to inch closer to victory. The Korean sealed the matchup in his name at 7-6(2), to get to the next round of
the US Open to meet the Canadian qualifier, Filip Peliwo, for a third round berth.
