Jaffa Cakes... cake or biscuit? ?

Would you say that Jaffa cakes ARE a cake or a biscuit?

A biscuit is a hard, crumbly thing that you dip into your tea or coffee. Cake is soft and sweet. Jaffa Cakes are cakes, are they not?

The main difference between biscuits and cakes is that biscuits go soft when they go stale and cakes generally go hard, jaffa cakes go hard...so id go with cakes.

I think this argument went to court over tax, because you pay more for a chocolate covered biscuit than a cake and i think macvitties won the right to call them cakes and sell them s cakes

Cake. Not only is it in the name, it's also spongy not crunchy.. they tend to be classified as biscuits because of their shape a nd appearance.

They had this discussion during a dispute with revenue and customs in the UK. At the time there was VAT payable on chocolate covered biscuits as a luxury, but not on cakes.

So they proved it was a cake.
