Question:

Jagr to the Penguins?

Well from many sources I am hearing that Jagr is close to signing with the Penguins.

http://communities.canada.com/edmontonjournal/blogs/hockey/archive/2008/07/03/hot-rumour-jagr-to-penguins.aspx

According to a source close to the Rangers organization believes Jagr's preference is to sign with the Penguins. It's believed Mario and Jagr have had private discussions but the question remains according to this source, will the Penguins do what it takes to clear enough salary to sign Jagr and are other parties in the Penguins organization that interested in Jagr? There's a rumor going around if Boyle accepts a trade to Ottawa, the Lightning would be interested in Sydor and Scuderi if they miss out on Jason Smith. Just hearsay regarding the Scuderi/Sydor rumor but my source with the Jagr info was on the spot with the Naslund signing so this may have legs.

Could you imagine Jagr playing with Crosby?

I guess only time will tell if this is true.

  1. Could happen. One nifty little tidbit about the new CBA and the cap...there seems to be a clause about incentives for guys over 35 (Jagr qualifies). Apparently they can ink him and offer a fairly large (and easy to reach) incentive package. Mario is a clever guy and there may be some wiggle room and maybe a couple minor deals to clear a little space. Very interesting possibility. And you can be sure with Mario around he wont get lazy like he did on occasion in NY.

As for Chelios, he will sign with the Wings once they get Filppula signed. They want to keep every dollar available just in case someone tries to sign him to an offer sheet (Kevin Lowe you better not!). Chelios and Holland have pretty openly discussed that he will sign and the deal will be cap freindly and incentive laden. He will be more a mentor to the young D (Lebda, Quincey, Ericsson, Meech and Kindl).

  2. Jagr has now signed to return to Russia...  It's confirmed.

  3. Well Sid is Mario and Jagr's child anyway...LOL...J/K!!!

  4. Oh my god, you serious?

    This just made my day.

Yes, I can see Jagr with Crosby. I don't really believe these rumors that he wants all the spotlight. I think he wants the exact opposite. Look at players like Ryan Malone. He was a star in Pittsburgh because all the attention was on Crosby and Malkin. I think it can be a perfect fit.

  5. Sounds like MONEY isnt an issue for him anymore.. its the 2 yr deal that he wants! He would be great for SID.... and maybe better than HOSSA in the fact he can work and teach SID many things to make SID even a better well-rounded player!

Hope it works out for the PENS!

  6. he wants the ring . pittsburgh learned to lose last year . enough left to get them the ring . it is done . lowest paid free agent forward .

  7. No, I would not believe that at all. The penguins already got rid of Hossa to the red wings, he's a traitor by the way. They don't have that much money to send around, and with young stars like crosby, malkin and fleury, they don't have much more to give out for players like jagr or shanahan

Edit: I am a pittsburgh fan and would love another star to come to the burgh, but I just don't see them spending the money. They should be looking at young upcoming stars, and another defensemen to help out gonchar. They have plenty of offense but not enough money for a star.

Give me the thumbs down, but I know its not gonna happen

  8. jags would fit perfectly with sid.  will sid fit perfectly with jagr tho?

  9. Sid the Kid will work with ANYONE in a Pens jersey that gives him the best shot at a Cup. Period, end of story. Sid is above the game in popularity so that argument that he needs to be the man is out the day (reference last year and Malkins run)

Cut the rest... try to keep Gil. Do you folks remember that the Rangers and Flyers literally centered their offense to go to the other side of Gil??? Gil is basically a lock down corner (football reference)

I don't know about the others... but Jagr is probably your best bet... send Super Mario to Jagr flat in NYC with videos highlights of the back to back Cups and Jagr signs for a discount and becomes a hero again.

Jagr would enter the Hall of fame as a Pens, the city would embrace him forever and he can retire in peace.

BTW, if Jagr is offered a chance at that and doesn't take it... even if its for a little less money... he deserves anything and everything he gets...and I'm sure Pens fans will wish ill will.

Good Luck and the Sharks still suck...

  10. Understand that Jags has always, always been one of my favorite players, even when he was with the Caps and the hated Rangers.  He's still a fantastic player, and has mileage left on those skates of his.

That being said, I'm hoping he finds somewhere else to play next year.  More that all the talent the Pens had last season, what really put them over the top was their team concept on the ice, their team chemistry, both on the ice and in the locker room, and their ability to be more that the sum of their parts.

As much as I like Jagr, he is not conducive to any of that....I wish him well, and a successful continuation of his career...but just not in Pittsburgh.

    ---edit---

Yahoo Sports reports that Jagr has signed a contract with Avangard Omsk, the team in the Russian Super League that he played for during the lockout.

So Jags to the Mellon Arena isn't going to happen...he's off to Russia.

Godspeed, Jags, I'm going to miss you.

  11. I would love Dupuis-Crosby-Jagr, or something. Holy dreamland. I'll have to dig my Jagr jersey out of my basement, it's probably ruined after all this time lol

    Cheli - He'll play...maybe 2 more years with Detroit..

Ray Emery - Some AHL camps I guess

Shanny - BRING HIM TO THE BURGH!!

Mark Recchi - Maybe he'll resign with Atlanta, if not, Carolina again...?

Teemu Selanne - Maybe he'll go to Phoenix, or Edmonton. Or Pittsburgh, that would be incredible lmfao

Mike Johnson - Uhh..... St. Louis remainer, I guess.....lol

    =)

EDIT- About the Cap space, we only have $2,979,933 dollars left, but say we move Sydor, Gill, maybe Taffe and Kennedy around, hey, there's some money! haha

EDIT - Selanne never even crossed my mind, I've been hyped up wanting Jagr, Naslund, Sundin, or Pavol Demitra, but now that I think about Teemu.....I want him!! lmao...we need a Finn...maybe he's the last piece to our puzzle? lol
