Jaguars Maurice Jones-Drew laid back for game against Texans
After missing his third straight practice, Maurice Jones-Drew, has been put on the inactive roster for the last game of the season against the Houston Texans. This decision has been made keeping in view the Jaguars player’s consistent knee injury.
Jack Del Rio, head coach for the Jags, ruled Jones-Drew out for Sunday’s game on Friday. Tight end Zach Miller is also out with lingering effects from a concussion, along with linebacker Justin Durant with a groin injury.
All through this season, Jones-Drew has been playing with his right knee injured. But it started to pain him even more after running his sixth successive 100 plus yard game on December 12. He missed six straight practices and didn’t play last week in their
three point loss to the Washington Redskin. Jones-Drew will likely undergo surgery after the season is over to cure his problematic knee.
"It wasn't hurt to the point that I couldn't play on it, but we knew that if I did play on it, this could happen," Jones-Drew admitted to a local newspaper on Thursday. "I chose to do it. I wanted to play football and I love playing the game. This is the
price you pay sometimes."
The Jaguars have also promoted linebacker Alvin Bowen from the practice squad to the active roster. David Garrard was also placed on injured reserve for the rest of the season with a finger injury on his throwing hand. He underwent surgery to repair his
finger on Thursday afternoon.
Bowen, a 222 pound, played for two games with the Jags this season, before being demoted and spending the rest of the year with the practice squad. Now he’s coming back. The 6 foot 1 linebacker is expected to join back.
Jones-Drew will be replaced by Rashad Jennings, while Trent Edwards will be in for Garrard.
These injuries could not come at a worse time. The Jags are now without two of their best offensive players for Sunday’s game, which they need to win. To get the AFC South title and a playoff spot, the Jags also need the Indianapolis Colts to lose to the
Tennessee Titans.
The game will start at 4:15 PM ET on Sunday January 2 at Reliant Stadium.
