Jaguars coach, Del Rio, says no change at quarterback position for now – NFL News
Despite being benched in their game against the Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars said that their quarterback Blaine Gabbert remained at their key starting position.
Jaguars' coach, Jack Del Rio said that for now the rookie player was their starter at the quarterback position. However, many have predicted that the player should not take the assurance as a guarantee for holding quarterback position
in the longer run.
"Blaine is our starting quarterback until I tell you otherwise," Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio told media after their game against the Texans, which they lost 20-13.
This was for the second time that Gabbert has been benched in a match. In the game against the Texans he was replaced by Luke McCown. He had also been benched in their eighth loss to the Texans earlier in the season.
Blaine Gabbert was the 10th overall pick in this year's draft. On Sunday he had guided struggling Jaguars to just a single scoring drive. Gabbert had been sacked six times, after which the coach pulled him off in favour of Luke
McCown.
McCown too had been benched in two games. He had also been named to start at quarterback position about five weeks before start of current season of National Football League (NFL) 2011, American football's premier league.
"I know my position on this football team," said Gabbert. "I know what I have to do to win games, plain and simple, and I'm not doing that right now."
However, Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew did not blame the quarterback for their performance on Sunday.
"A quarterback is only as good as the players around him," Jones-Drew said. "When they pull your quarterback, they are saying something about you. It's not the quarterback. We have to continue to work to get better with whoever
is going to be the starter next week."
It is being predicted that the Jaguars will go for a change at quarterback position. The problem however is that they do not have a right choice for that slot. While Gabbert will continue to benefit from the lack of options available
it is not necessarily meant that the coach is happy with his performance.
