Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio sacked, team on sale – NFL News
Only a day after Jacksonville Jaguars owner and coach categorically denied arising of any such possibility as to bringing the job of Jaguars coach into question at this juncture of time, Jaguars' owner on Tuesday announced firing of the coach and sale of team in one swoop.
The coach Jack Del Rio who was unaware of coming of any such move until yesterday, especially given the fact that he was assured by the owner, was shocked on hearing of the announcement.
"I never gave into that," Del Rio told WJXT-TV when asked if his firing was inevitable."There was certainly plenty of that kind of speculation," Del Rio added. "Any time an owner makes a statement like, 'You better be in the playoffs or else,' and then you end up starting the year the way we started, the reality is it was tough. But we never gave in to that; the players never gave in to that. I think when you look at the way the team is fighting, competing, you really should be proud of that. No one likes to lose."
Facing media in their post-game questioning Jaguars owner Wayne Weaver said that the time was not suitable for making such a move as sacking of the coach despite that Jacksonville Jaguars’ performance has gone considerably down for last few games. ‘That could be for any other time’, was his reply to media questions.
Del Rio himself was also sure about impossibility of any changes in his department. He said that even if he himself considered such a move it would be very selfish. He insisted that the team was fighting well and their performance was improving consistently. He refused to take their consecutive losses as an indicator to their poor show off during all these games.
The coach, despite all criticism and questioning, also remained consistent with continuing Blaine Gabbert at quarterback position. He refused to bring any changes at his position despite that Gabbert had failed in all seven starts he made in the games before their last game. His performance in their last game was not as good as to consider him for next game, but Del Rio once again reiterated that Gabbert will start in their next game, on the coming Sunday.
