Jaime Alguersuari: Red Bull Toro Rosso not targeting podiums in 2011 Formula 1 season
Red Bull Toro Rosso’s Jaime Alguersuari recently stated that his team is not targeting podium positions in the 2011 Formula 1 season and was instead trying its best to move ahead of the mid-running teams.
The team has been able to score some impressive times during the pre-season test sessions ahead of the season opening race of the 2011 Formula 1 season that is scheduled to take place in Australia on 27 March.
Toro Rosso introduced their new car the ‘STR6’ in 2011 which seems like a major improvement over the older model. Alguersuari is quite confident about Toro Rosso’s run in the new season.
“This one is the first Toro Rosso fully developed by the team without relying on Red Bull. Because with last year's car there were things in common with the previous one, the truth is that it is going well, I think better than last year, but we still don't
know the true potential,” he told the media.
He added that the car has a lot of pace and is reliable as well. However, he is not aware of what the car is capable of as compared to the rest of the teams on the grid and added that it was ‘unrealistic’ to think that they are going to challenge the top
running teams.
“It would be a dream, but realistically our struggle is not with Ferrari, Red Bull, Mercedes or McLaren. We can't compete with them either in budget or another way. The adversaries we need to overcome are Force India, Sauber, maybe Williams. That would be
satisfying to us,” he said.
Alguersuari also stated that he is going to try his best to beat his teammate Sebastien Buemi and prove that he is the better driver amongst the two.
It is going to be an interesting season for the mid-running teams as the competition is going to be tough and the new devices including the Kinetic Energy Recovery System and adjustable rear wings are going to play a major part in each team’s performance.
