Jaime Alguersuari backs up Fernando Alonso – Formula 1 news
Former Toro Rosso driver, Jaime Alguersuari thinks that Fernando Alonso of Ferrari will maintain his lead in the drivers’ championship in the 2012 Formula 1 season ahead.
Alonso is presently at the top of drivers’ rankings with 164 points and has a superb lead over his main rivals, Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing. Moreover, he has performed remarkably well in the first half of the season even with his
uncompetitive car and has scored some amazing points for his team which expected to suffer in the opening few grands prix.
Alguersuari has said that the Spaniard will deliver an inspiring performance in the Belgian GP which is going to be held at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps this weekend and will remain dominant in the field.
“There hasn't been a dominant team this season so it's difficult to predict who will run well at Spa but Fernando Alonso is looking best placed at the moment,” Alguersuari wrote in his column for the BBC.
Furthermore, he admired the performance of the two-time world champion in the season until now who has made his mark stronger in this year’s title fight.
“He has done a fantastic job to keep his title hopes alive with a car that was not competitive at the start of the year,” he said.
In addition, he praised Alonso’s consistency of scoring points in the first eleven races and called him the most favourite title contender.
“Alonso has done that through consistency; a bad result for him is fifth place. This is what you want - you don't need to always be fastest, you just want to always be quick,” he added.
It will be important to mention that he called Spa one of the most challenging circuits for the drivers where the changing conditions keep the thrill and the excitement intact in the race for the spectators. Additionally, he said that the drivers will get
a chance to prove their potential at the track of the approaching race.
Over and above, he said that he is keenly looking forward to see how all the teams perform in the upcoming race.
