Jaime Alguersuari believes anything can happen in remainder of 2012 – Formula 1 news
Ex-Toro Rosso driver, Jaime Alguersuari insists that it is too early to draw conclusions that Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing will win the championship title as anything can happen in the remainder of the 2012 Formula 1 season.
Vettel has been considered as the out-and-out favourite for this year’s championship title after he claimed his third consecutive victory in the Korean Grand Prix. Moreover, he is presently at the top of the drivers’ standings and is 6 points ahead of his
major opponent, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari who had led the championship for most of the time in the season until now.
Even though, the veteran German driver has been deemed as the strongest title contender, however, Alguersuari has said that nothing can be projected about who will win the championship as the season has been full of surprises so far and the competition is
still very tough.
“This F1 season has changed so fast that it would be premature to jump to too many conclusions following Sebastian Vettel's victory in Korea, which put him ahead of Fernando Alonso in race for championship,” he wrote in his BBC column.
In addition, he admired the performance of the Spaniard who has shown tremendous pace even with an incompetent car. He also said that the 31-year-old has been very consistent as compared to the defending champion.
“Alonso has been consistent and scoring as many points as he could, as well as producing some fantastic racing that allowed him to lead championship,” he said.
Though, he said that the Milton Keynes based team has managed to attain competitive results in the last few races with their significant updates after facing some issues during the start of the season. Nonetheless, he said that there are still four races
left in the current season and it will be too soon to make predictions.
“There are four races left and anything can happen. It is not just a matter of going out there and being the fastest,” he added.
It will be interesting to see how all the contenders perform in the races ahead and who wins the championship title in the end.
