Jaime Alguersuari confident Toro Rosso will perform better in 2011 than last year – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Toro Rosso driver Jaime Alguersuari has recently stated that he is confident that his team will give a much better performance than it did back in the 2010 Formula 1 season.
He claims that the team would move further up the grid this year and score more points as a result as well.
The team has produced an innovative new car for the 2011 Formula 1 season and it seems that they are more than satisfied with its results as well. Other than that, they have been performing very well during the pre-season test sessions and scored some good
results. Jaime believes that these signs are good for the team’s 2011 run.
“I think this year will be much better. My feeling with the new Toro Rosso is very good. We cannot expect to be ahead of Red Bull, Ferrari and McLaren, but we can beat Force India and Sauber,” he said.
Toro Rosso’s new car the STR6 is a huge jump from the team’s previous car and this year, teams like Williams and Lotus Renault GP have also produced very good cars as compared to their 2010 cars. Alguersuari stated that Williams and Renault are going to
follow the top running teams in the 2011 Formula 1 season.
“Actually, if we can be between 12th and 14th on the grid and finish the championship ahead of those teams, we would be satisfied,” he added.
Alguersuari will have to perform up to his team’s expectations this year. Jaime and his teammate Sebastien Buemi are in a very crucial position at the moment since Red Bull motorsports consultant Helmut Marko has recently stated that he is not afraid to
make any sort of changes to the team’s drivers’ line-up this season.
According to the 2010 results and the current scenario, Alguersuari is in a more secure position to hold his seat at the team and his teammate has admitted that he would have to raise his performance this year.
“There is no excuse for my weak end to the [2010] season. But in 2011 we will see a new, toned Buemi who is also stronger in the head. Under normal circumstances, I will have Jaime under control!” Buemi said.
Toro Rosso scored just 13 points in the constructors’ standings to secure the 9th place in the 2010 Formula 1 season which is very disappointing for the team.
Toro Rosso finished on top of the three new teams of the sport that is Lotus Racing Team, Hispania Racing Team and Virgin Racing Team. Neither of the new teams was able to secure a single point but they are hoping to deliver better results in the upcoming
season as well.
