Jaime Alguersuari does not feel hard done over losing his seat with Toro Rosso for 2012 – Formula 1
Jaime Alguersuari says that he does not blame Red Bull over losing his race seat at Toro Rosso.
Alguersuari had an impressive 2011 season as he scored 26 points for his team and finished with a best place finish of 7th. His good showing during the season made it almost certain for him to retain his seat, but the announcement of Toro Rosso of their
2012 line up surprised not only Alguersuari but followers of the sport as well.
The driver though admitted that he was quite shocked at the news. He was certain to retain his seat in the team at least until the end of 2012. Toro Rosso announced young Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne as their drivers replacing both their drivers
of 2011, Sebastien Buemi being the other one.
“Just a week ago after karting in Brazil I talked with Helmut Marko and Franz Tost and they told me they had plans for me in 2012,” Alguersuari said. “They did so with enthusiasm and showed a lot of confidence in me.”
“Second, I am not a victim because for seven years I have enjoyed the privilege because of them. And third, there is no drama, because I have many plans for the present and the future. The surprise lasted for a couple of hours but I have talked to my family
and realised that life is full of opportunities and challenges,” he further added.
Alguersuari conceded that he cannot feel that it is an unfair decision as he has achieved a lot through the help of Red Bull. He said that it was disappointing for a few hours but after giving it some thought realised that ups and downs are part of life.
Being in the kind of form achieved during the 2011 season opportunities will definitely come.
It will be interesting to see who Alguersuari joins for the 2012 season, a few teams are looking for drivers, but they are also looking for sponsors to back the drivers. His showing in the 2011 season is good enough for him to get a seat with any of the
midfield teams.
