Jaime Alguersuari expresses his disappointment over his ouster from Toro Rosso – Formula 1 news
Jaime Alguersuari has shown his dissent at the way Red Bull handled his ouster from Toro Rosso.
Alguersuari did a fairly good job for Toro Rosso in the three seasons he had with the team. 2011 although was not a good year for the team on the whole, but the Spaniard fared better than his teammate Sebastien Buemi.
Buemi was also replaced by Toro Rosso at the end of 2011. At first, Toro Rosso and Red Bull management maintained that the duo had been replaced in order to keep on grooming the young drivers. Red Bull has a young driver programme that they promote and use
to find new talent. Sebastian Vettel and Jaime Alguersuari have been products of that programme. Then Helmut Marko was quoted that the two lacked the talent to persist with them. Although later Buemi was hired by Red Bull as their third driver for the 2012
season which clearly contradicted Marko’s comments.
Alguersuari maintains that he has nothing against the replacement, and said that he is not judging Red Bull for it. The issue he has with them is that the Red Bull management had given him all the confidence of another season with the team and yet they decided
to replace him in mid December, which made it too late for him to secure a race seat with any other team.
“When Red Bull Racing told me last December 13 that I would not run for them in 2012, I didn't judge them; I do not feel the victim of a drama,” Alguersuari said.
“When I heard Red Bull's decision in December I got in touch with Luis Perez-Sala, my friend and mentor since he was in Formula Renault 1600 in Italy. Fortunately we both agreed on the same sentiment; HRT does not have a car to me today and I cannot settle
at this point for fighting to improve a car, which of course will be far behind,” he added.
Alguersuari is not part of any team for the 2012 season yet, although he has suggested that he is in talks with one of the top teams in F1 and is making sure he is ready and fit if the opportunity arises for him to come in.
