Jaime Alguersuari gets over Spa disappointment- ready for action at Monza
Jaime Alguersuari is entering the season’s next round with a new hope and commitment. Despite the disappointing race at Spa last week, he is looking forward to Monza with much anticipation and optimism.
The Formula One caravan is ready to head for the Italian Grand Prix this weekend, marking the fourteenth race of the season, on one of the most historic and legendry tracks. The Spanish driver had a rough time at the Belgian Grand Prix, as he finished pointless in thirteenth place after having started from 11th on the grid.
As per the actual results, Alguersuari packed on 10th place at Spa but as the race ended he was handed a penalty of 20 seconds because he had cut a chicane while attempting to cross Tonio Liuzzi of Force India. This penalty dropped the driver three places down, snatching away his only point of the day.
The Toro Rosso driver accepts the fact that at this stage of the season each point has a lot of worth, yet he says that he had put the bad memory behind. He is now determined to enter the next round with a new spirit while taking along the lessons of the last race with him.
"By now, I've gotten over the disappointment of losing my point for tenth place in Spa, even if I never expected to get that sort of penalty. I didn’t make up any places as a result of the move nor did I make up much time," the driver reported on a website. He added, "It was a very difficult situation to evaluate given the track conditions at the time. But it happened, so you get over it and move on.”
However, he still looks back at the last race with a positive note and claims that he did his best there and would want to do equally good this weekend as well only that he wouldn’t want the mistake be repeated. While talking about Monza, the 20-year-old said that he had always found it to be a great place to drive as he took part in various junior formulas there.
This is the second season of the Spanish driver in a Formula 1 car and he expects to end this year better than the last one. He announced his aspirations for the Italian Grand Prix saying, "My initial target will be to make sure I qualify in the top fifteen at least. The races at Monza are always awesome, both to drive and also to watch, because of the high speeds and the fact that this is the one circuit where you can really slipstream other cars, which is an interesting experience. So, I am keen to see how our car works on this track."
Meanwhile, this year hasn’t been exceptionally good for the driver as he has been successful in bagging just three points so far. The first two points were achieved at the Malaysian Grand Prix, which was the third race of the season, while the third point came at Spanish Grand Prix. Last few races have particularly been bad for him as he retired in two of them, firstly at Silverstone and later at Hungaroring.
Now, with only six more races to go, the driver is looking forward for some good finishes before the season ends.
