Jaime Alguersuari hoping to score points at British GP despite a poor qualifying round – Formula 1
Toro Rosso driver Jaime Alguersuari has said that he is still hoping to score some points for the team at the British Grand Prix despite his disappointing qualifying round at the Silverstone racetrack on Saturday, July 9, 2011.
Alguersuari failed to make an impact during the qualifying round of the Silverstone race weekend. He finished his qualifying run at the 18th place ahead of his teammate Sebastien Buemi in Silverstone.
Despite his unsatisfying qualifying round of the British GP, the Spaniard admitted that he is still positive for Sunday’s race. In addition, he mentioned that he is hoping to score decent points for the Toro Rosso-Ferrari team.
The 21-year-old driver added that the qualifying round was unlucky for the team, as they failed to secure a decent position on the Silverstone grid for the race day.
He said, “But it is not all negative, because we have good data in case it is wet again tomorrow and also as regards the Prime tyre on a long run, so we can be in good shape for the race. If we make the best of any opportunities, then it is not impossible for us to finish in the points again by the end of tomorrow afternoon.”
The team driver discussed his qualifying round and added that he should have switched to soft tyres, as the hard compounds were unable to support him during his run.
He further said that the team has to be competitive both in wet and dry weather conditions at the British Grand Prix.
His teammate Buemi finished his qualifying run at the 19th place for the team. The Swiss driver was quite disappointed with his poor qualifying session, as he was expecting a top ten qualifying position.
The 22-year-old driver mentioned, “But the rain came down hard on my "out" lap, so I never got a chance to set a good time with the soft tyre, which normally is as much as two seconds a lap quicker than the hard.”
After a disappointing qualifying round in Silverstone, the Toro Rosso drivers are still hoping to score points in Sunday’s race. Let’s see how they manage their race at the Silverstone circuit.
