Jaime Alguersuari joins Lucas di Grassi as Pirelli test driver for 2012 Formula 1 season – Formula 1
Jaime Alguersuari, former Toro Rosso driver has joined ex-Virgin racer, Lucas di Grassi as the Pirelli test driver for 2012 Formula 1 season.
Moreover, the Italian firm, for the first time has two test drivers whereas during the last year the Brazilian driver, Grassi was the only driver to carry out the role of tyre testing.
Alguersuari feels extremely pleased with Pirelli’s offer and said that it is a great opportunity for him to make his comeback in F1.
“I can’t wait to get started with this very important and challenging job of developing the new tyres for the future, which I’m looking forward to a lot. I have a huge desire to get behind the wheel of a Formula One car again and return to competition,
so this is a brilliant chance for me,” said Alguersuari.
Furthermore, Grassi believes that being a Pirelli test driver will prove out to be potentially beneficial for him in future.
“Just driving a car for so much mileage per year is good preparation in case there is an opportunity in F1,” said di Grassi.
Nonetheless, he said that if he could not make into F1, the test driving is the best way to train himself for a chance to race in other Autosport events like Le Mans cars and IndyCar.
In addition, he asserted that he is happy to be with Pirelli for another year after spending triumphant first year. He also said that it has been a great learned experience altogether.
“I’m delighted to be back for another year with Pirelli after an extremely successful first season of collaboration,” said Brazilian.
Besides, Paul Hembery, the motorsport director of Pirelli said that they perform their duty well only because of their extremely talented and quick drivers.
He added that Alguersuari will bring his valuable experience of driving at the sharp corners of the field while Grassi will provide them with the support they need to develop the reference point of the programme.
Additionally, he said that Pirelli have provided a great opportunity to both the drivers to show their skills and capabilities during the testing and make themselves able to secure race seats in F1.
