Jaime Alguersuari reveals Robert Kubica’s injuries are worse than expected – Formula 1 news
Robert Kubica is not even able to pick up a glass to drink water as revealed by Jaime Alguersuari.
Kubica first got injured during the 2010 season in a freak accident during a Italian Rally race. Such was the nature of the accident that Kubica’s co-driver Jakub Gerber said that when he saw his partner’s injuries he initially thought he was dead.
The injury led Kubica to lose out on the season ahead. Lotus known as Renault then had maintained that they will wait for Kubica to recover and will not replace his seat.
Kubica’s recovery was taking longer than expected and after several deliberations it was Lotus decided that they cannot wait any longer and cancelled the Pole’s contract. However, Kubica’s management and Lotus got into a verbal mess over the Pole’s recovery
and ability to comeback. The issue ended with Kubica confirming that he will not be available for first half of the 2011 season.
The Pole was recovering fast and it was expected that he is line to join Formula 1 in the 2012 season but in an unfortunate turn of event, Kubica slipped off black ice near his house and broke the same leg that he had injured earlier in his accident. The
incident caused another season to go by without Kubica.
Kubica had kept his injuries and recuperation low key and only recently news came in that the Pole was healing up nicely and would be looking to make a return soon. Alguersuari though has heard a different story from his sources.
“I think Robert is and was a fantastic driver, fast and complete. I am sure that he could have been a world champion without a doubt,” he said this week when he was revealed as a co-commentator for British radio in 2012.
“At the moment the latest information I have about him is not very good,” the Spaniard admitted. “He cannot drink using his hand – I mean he cannot take a glass and drink, so it doesn’t look too good.”
“I think his injury is worse than expected,” the 21-year-old continued. “Of course I would like him to come back, because without a doubt he deserves to be in F1.”
