Jaime Garcia confident of steering St. Louis Cardinals back in World Series – MLB Update
With St. Louis Cardinals trailing 2-3 in the World Series, manager Tony La Russa has decided to employ starter Jaime Garcia on the mound for Game 6 against Texas Rangers scheduled for Wednesday, October 26 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri.
A bull-pen controversy during Game 5 saw the Cardinals fall 2-4 against the Rangers and allow the latter a lead for the first time in the seven-game fiesta. The Rangers managed to split the first two games of the series at Busch Stadium and then quickly overcame a 7-16 battering at Rangers Ballpark in Game 3 to come flooding back in Game 4 and 5 and inch closer to the World Series crown.
The Rangers are now just one win away from winning their first crown at the Fall Classic. Texas won its first pennant last year, but failed to conquer the San Francisco Giants in the World Series, falling in five games to muddle their first chance.
Being asked to pitch in a do-or-die situation for the Cardinals, Garcia believes he has the physical strength and the mental ability to prevail against the Rangers, especially playing at home. Busch Stadium is a renowned pitchers’ ballpark and thus conditions will assist Garcia against a strong offence that the Rangers sport.
Garcia termed pitching in the postseason as a learning experience which has no limits. He articulated that this is only his second full year in the Majors and thus has still a lot to prove as far as his mettle is concerned.
Explaining his strategy for the game, Garcia said, “I kind of had the same mentality that I've had since the playoffs started. So it's been the same for me the last two months basically, and I'm still going to try to do the same thing, don't change anything, don't try to do too much because this is the World Series. That's kind of how I feel.”
Garcia failed to make an impact in Game 2 of the World Series and believes that this is his chance to control his emotions and execute the game plan. He asserted that the only thing on his mind is to win and it does not matter what time of the season it is.
