Jaime Garcia’s shut-out innings help St Louis Cardinals defeat Milwaukee Brewers 6-0 - MLB Update
The St Louis Cardinals’ starter, Jaime Garcia tossed a devastating spell, as the club romped to a 6-0 victory in the first outing against the league rivals Milwaukee Brewers at the Busch Stadium on Friday, May 6.
The Cardinals’ starter, Jaime Garcia threw a remarkable spell of pitching to crush the opposition’s batters. The 24-year-old hurler tossed nine innings, gave just two hits and one walk while striking-out eight batters to snatch his fourth triumph of the
season. Garcia now has an impressive 4-0 record with just 1.99 ERA, which is one of the best records in 2011 so far.
Garcia had the best outing of his career since 2008 when he joined the team as pitcher.
Garcia told reporters, "This is definitely one of the greatest days of my short career. It was real exciting out there."
He further added, "I noticed the sixth or seventh inning nobody was talking to me, but I knew the whole time. I knew I had a perfect game and it so hard not to think about it."
While Garcia held the Brewers scoreless, the batters attacked the opposite starter. Matt Holliday hit to deep left-centre field off Randy Wolf, the Brewers’ starter in the first inning to provide the Cardinals an early 1-0 lead.
Then centre-fielder Colby Rasmus and top slugger Albert Pujols both added an RBI single each to take the club to 3-0 in the third inning. Pujols was part of the three RBI singles as well and he seemed to have gained last year’s form against the Brewers.
The 31-year-old Pujols has hammered eight home runs to the Brewers last year and this momentum might elevate him again to such a position.
Yadier Molina launched a homer off Wolf in the fourth to take his club into a strong 4-0 position. Albert hit a grounder to centre for a RBI double and aggravated the situation for Wolf.
Wolf landed at the plate with a 0.65 ERA in his last three starts but this time went loose and gave away six runs on seven hits, allowed one walk over five innings. Wolf gave one homer and struck out two batters.
“It was a nightmare,” said the hurler. "It was definitely a night where my command was the worst it's been all year, that's for sure. There were times where I was missing all the way across the plate. When you do that, it's almost impossible to have a good
outing."
The Brewers’ reliever, Mike McClendon pitched three innings, did not allow a hit and struck-out five batters. He did not receive enough support from the batters to take the club into a winning position.
