Jaime Quirk becomes new bench coach for Chicago Cubs – MLB Update
The Chicago Cubs continue to induct the experienced and seasoned coaches in their staff. On Tuesday, November 29 Jamie Quirk, the bullpen coach of Houston Astros, became the bench coach for the Chicago Cubs.
Quirk will be serving under Dale Sveum, the hitting coach that the Chicago Cubs recently signed a contract with. Quirk announced his decision on Tuesday, informing the press that he was leaving the Astros to join the Cubs under Dale Sveum, the new manager
for the Chicago Cubs.
With the Chicago Cubs seeming increasingly vibrant with the new inductions, starting from Theo Epstein, who was previously associated with the Boston Red Sox to Jed Hoyer, another seasoned general manager having had his time with the Red Sox.
As Dale Sveum, having previously remained with the Milwaukee Brewers became the new hitting coach of the Chicago Cubs, it is now expected that the club will be on their heels again to regain the glory it once enjoyed.
Jamie Quirk will have a huge opportunity to assist in materialising this dream. On Tuesday, among other things, Quirk spoke of how he came to sign the contract with the Chicago Cubs as he wants to get more involved in the game.
"It's just a great opportunity," Quirk said. "When Dale Sveum was interviewing, he asked me if I'd be interested if he gets any of the jobs, and he got the Cubs. I talked with [Cubs president of baseball operations] Theo [Epstein] and passed that test, and
called [former Astros general manager] Ed [Wade] for permission and all that. I was excited.”
Although the Houston Astros was unable to make it to the playoffs, neither the Cubs could achieve that distinction, the inclusion of seasoned coaching staff and the reports of talks with new players may help the Cubs come forward as a strong team to reckon
with. All the changes will surely have their concrete result when the next season begins. It will be interesting to see what type of impact Quirk will have on the team.
