Jaiprakash Gaur of Jaypee Group is looking for successful Grand Prix in India – Formula 1 news
The Indian Grand Prix organizers are aiming at successful Grand Prix event for redemption for the commonwealth games ridicule India faced in 2010.
“We will make up for the shameful memories of the Commonwealth Games,” said Jaiprakash Gaur, founding chairman of the Jaypee Group which owns the circuit.
The commonwealth games were heralded as a showcase of how rapidly India is developing and growing and was going to act as a catalyst to support its role in the world stage. It improved the overall image, instead poor preparation, management and corruption
charges earned them ridicule and left a shameful memory.
“The world's perception of India is going to change after the Grand Prix and people will forget what happened because of the Commonwealth Games.”
“This is a great chance for India to promote tourism, as many people from different countries will be here.”
“India has seen incredible growth in the past 15 years and this will push it up a few notches.” he further added.
Gaur is looking at the 30th October date as he believes there will be another chance for the country to redeem itself. The Jaypee Group has approximately invested $215 million in the Formula 1 circuit, claiming rights to Grand Prix in India for
the next ten years.
President of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs in India Vicky Chandhok, feels that the circuit is a great asset and will be used not only of international but local events as well, so that the young driver’s of India get better exposure in the sport.
He also mentioned that Formula 1 will get a lot more popular during the three days event and will showcase local and junior talent.
The German architect of the venue, Hermann Tilke said that they are giving final touches to the venue which has hues of the orange white and green colours depicting the Indian Flag.
Indians will also be looking forward to support their Force India team, which is at the moment fighting to maintain their 5th position in the 2011 constructors’ championship.
The inaugural Grand Prix in India will take off on Sunday, October 30, 2011.
