The Welshman Jak Jones beat Oliver Brown by a frame score of 4-3 in the best-of-seven frames Round 1 match of the Event 3 of this season’s World Snooker Q School on day three.
The final event of this season’s World Snooker Q School is being held at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
It was a very well fought battle, which went all the way. However, it was a highly impressive performance from Jones, as he was trailing 1-3 before he clawed his way back to register a 4-3 win. The overall score-line between both players was 33-53, 79-16,
14-86 (Brown 78), 23-104 (Brown 57), 71-29, 57-17 (Jones 40) and 63-7.
The opening frame was a scrappy affair, as both players dug deep into the safety battle. However, it was the Englishman, Brown, who came on the top to draw the first blood 1-0. Jones responded in the second and levelled the things at 1-1 before Brown knocked
in a classy match-high break of 78 in the third to restore his one frame lead at 2-1.
He then pocketed the fourth frame as well with a carving break of 57 to further extend his lead by 3-1.
It looked as if Brown was going to secure a place in the next round before everyone was left flabbergasted when the Welshman bounced back into the game and won all of the following three frames to pull off a shocking win.
Brown held his nerves and showcased his flawless safety skills to win the fifth and sixth frames to force the decider. Brown had a chance in the final frame but he was forced to play safe after rolling in seven points. A few chances were then exchanged before
Jones mopped up a frame-winning break of 40 to finish the matters off.
He will now face Bash Maqsood in the Round 2.
