Jak Jones downs Bash Maqsood in Round 2 – 2011 World Snooker Q School, Event 3
The Welshman, Jak Jones, has beaten Bash Maqsood by a frame score of 4-3 in the best-of-seven frames Round 2 match of the event three of this season’s World Snooker Q School on day four.
The last event of this year’s World Snooker Q School is being staged at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
The Englishman, Maqsood, who previously defeated Stephen Ormerod in Round 1, has lost his hopes for the main tour card in Round 2. However, it was an accomplishing performance from Jones, as he held his nerves to edge past his opponent in the deciding frame.
The cutthroat competition which went all the way had and overall score-line of 57-68 (52); 68 (61)-4; 72-38; 101 (70)-16; 54-68; 42-59; 62-21.
Maqsood dominated the opening frame with a dominant break of 52 to draw the first blood 1-0. Jones also showed his break building skills and responded in the second with a carving break of 61 to level the things at 1-1. The third frame was a scrappy affair.
Many chances were squandered by both players but in the end, it was the Welshman who came on top to go in front at 2-1.
Maqsood had a chance in the fourth frame before he lost his nerves breaking down on 16 and when the chance presented itself, Jones slotted a superb break of 70 to further extend his lead by 3-1.
The match was almost through there before Maqsood bounced back into the game with all of his energy and won the following fifth and sixth frames to take the match into the deciding frame. He did not do anything outstanding but in fact, relied on his tactical
game to pocket both frames.
It was a nail-biting final frame, as both players dug deep into the safety battle. However, this time it was Jones who appeared on top to seal victory.
He will now face Kyren Wilson in the Round three.
